Pacquiao gives condition for Mayweather rematch

Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach has revealed that his fighter would want any rematch with Floyd Mayweather to be a “professional bout”.

The Filipino legend prepares to take on late-replacement Yordenis Ugas in his ring return on Saturday night in Las Vegas, after original opponent Errol Spence was forced to withdraw from the hotly anticipated contest with an eye injury.

And despite the distraction of his latest test in the ring, Pacquiao has spoken openly about his rivalry with Mayweather in recent weeks after his exhibition clash with YouTube star Logan Paul.

But the six-weight world champion’s trainer has revealed that Pacquiao would want any renewed rivalry to be a ‘professional fight’ and also revealed another potential future option as Josh Taylor.

“We would like to fight Mayweather one more time,” Pacquiao’s Hall of Fame trainer Roach told Sky Sports.

“We are just going one fight at a time.

“The thing about Manny? He is not just going to pick some guy with a high rating because the world loves him.

“Manny wants to fight real fighters. He will challenge the best.

“Yes Josh Taylor that fight could happen for sure.”

Pacquiao has consistently defied the odds brought about from age, defeating the likes of Adrien Broner and Jessie Vargas in recent years, and claimed victory in his last bout against Keith Thurman by split decision back in 2019.

Although he goes into the contest with Ugas as favourite, questions have been raised over the Filipino’s lack of preparation for an orthodox fighter, in addition to the age and reach advantage that the Cuban will possess on the night.
