Pele congratulates Ronaldo on record

Pele has finally put to rest the controversy surrounding his record and has congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo for breaking it.

There has been a great deal of debate over what exactly the record is for the most competitive goals scored.

While Pele had claimed the record at over 1,000, some said that Josef Bican should be credited on 805 rather than the ‘official’ 759.

It seems as if Pele has finally acknowledged Ronaldo following his hat-trick when Juventus beat Cagliari 3-1.

“I admire you a lot, I love watching you play and this is no secret to anyone.

“Congratulations on breaking my record of goals in official matches. My only regret is not being able to give you a hug today.
