 Peseiro plots better show against Ecuador

 

New Super Eagles head Coach Jose Peseiro is looking forward to a better outing against Ecuador on Thursday.

Peseiro admitted after Eagles lost 2-1 to Mexico that his team did not click properly especially in the first half in the match played at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday.

The former Saudi Arabia and Venezuela coach who is a lover of 3-5-2 formation watched as the Mexicans cut through trio of Chidozie Awaziem, William Troost-Ekong, and Semi Ajayi at the heart of the defence flanked by wing-backs Moses Simon and Calvin Bassey.

The Mexicans did not only shoot into the lead as early as the 12th minute but got a bonus from an own goal by William Troost-Ekong.Feyenoord’s forward Cyriel Dessers equaliser minutes into the second half served as a consolation going into the second game. Peseiro who also coach Porto and Al Ahly who incidentally failed in their quest to clinch another CAF Champions league title Monday night, revealed he loves to be in control of a game, adding

“We cannot hide it; we played a very bad first half,” Peseiro told ESPN.

“We had five players in defence, and they had two players playing forward and the two players controlled the five. They were pressing and we did not solve it. We cannot have that.

“We decided that if the two was controlling the three, then we have to make it a four and have more control in midfield.

“And it helped us take control of the game because as a coach, my philosophy is that I like control, to control the game.”

Eagles have been intensifying training since the first game will next tackle Ecuador on Thursday before returning for AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone and Mauritius.
