Peseiro provides latest update on contract with NFF

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has provided an update on his contract situation with the Nigeria Football Federation.

The Portuguese football tactician has sixteen days left on his current contract with the Nigerian Federation and is free to accept an offer to join a new employer with effect from March 1, 2024 if he does not sign a new deal.

Those upstairs at the Nigerian Federation and Ministry of Sports made it clear before the start of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that Peseiro signing a new contract hinged on the Super Eagles performance in the just concluded tournament.

The former Venezuela and Saudi Arabia coach ended up exceeding expectations, surpassing the target of reaching at least the semifinals of the AFCON, although the Super Eagles, known for being an attack-minded team, were criticized for playing negative football.

Before the start of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, few believed that the Super Eagles would advance to the final considering the fact that they began the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on a shaky note with back-to-back draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Asked whether or not he will continue as Nigeria manager, Peseiro said to TVC News Nigeria: “My contract ends at the end of this month. Now I go to rest and I am speaking with the NFF to know about my future.

“Now I need to rest as I’m very tired, everybody is tired but we are speaking together about my future.”

Peseiro has been coaching the Super Eagles since May 2022 and his record stands at eleven wins, four draws and seven losses in his twenty-two games in charge.
