Phoenix 2021 Limited, the group, headed by Bahrain businessman Tamal Mubarak Al-Hammad, will take over the League One club while Mal Brannigan, formerly of Dundee United and Dundalk, will become the club’s new CEO.

The takeover of Wigan Athletic by Bahraini-funded group Phoenix 2021 Limited has been completed.

The group, headed by Bahrain businessman Tamal Mubarak Al-Hammad, will take over the League One club while Mal Brannigan, formerly of Dundee United and Dundalk, will become the club’s new CEO.

It follows a turbulent period for the club after the Latics were put into administration by the previous owner Au Yeung Wai Kay in July last year.

Wigan were handed a 12-point deduction last season which saw them relegated to League One. They sit in the relegation zone with nine games left of the season. on the good books of Gernot Rohr not until after helping his team to record an out-right away victory at the least expected hour.
