Rangers held by Coal City as weather conditions disrupt encounter

Rangers International F.C of Enugu was on Saturday, March 30, 2024, inside the main bowl of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu held to a 1-1 draw by NNL side, Coal City F.C even as challenging weather conditions did not allow the 2024 Enugu State F. A Cup to be concluded.

Uche Promise had shot the NNL side into the lead in 69 minutes which lasted only four minutes as Okorie Chiedozie leveled things up for the premiership side after being set up by Chukwudi Nwaodu even as the goalkeeper of the NNL side, Elochukwu Pascal was the busier of the two shot-stoppers in the encounter.

The premiership table-topping side had taken the game to half of the NNL side. Still, a combination of factors led to the first half of the highly entertaining encounter that was watched by many spectators failing to record any goal.

At the end of the 90th minute after the referee sounded his whistle, the difficulty for both sets of players in seeing led to the encounter not being concluded as the contending teams awaited further directives from the competition organizers.

Reacting to the inconclusive match, Enugu State F. A Boss, Barrister Tony Ugwu said that the F. A will await the match report of the finals before taking further steps on the situation, stressing, “As u can see the weather, the teams are complaining that they can’t see and incidentally, the Stadium management couldn’t put on the generator set to power the Stadium light; at the end of the day, we taught we were going to conclude the game, but it’s a natural occurrence”.

He further stated, “I don’t think a professional team will be scared to play penalties, and you can’t play penalties in darkness, mind you, penalties are part of the game. We will get the match report from the officials and come up with a decision.”
