Rangers suffer blow in their pursuit of Cyriel Dessers

Scottish Premiership giants Rangers have reportedly suffered a blow in their pursuit of Cyriel Dessers, with the Super Eagles striker keen on remaining in the Serie A rather than join the Glasgow club in the summer transfer window.

According to Calciomercato, via Football Scotland, Dessers has no intention to move abroad and wants to extend his stay in Italy.

Rangers have been strongly linked with Dessers and had tabled an initial bid to Cremonese but fell short of his £7 million valuation.

The Light Blues manager Michael Beale had identified him as a potential replacement for the departed Alfredo Morelos despite completing the signing of Sam Lammers from Sampdoria.

Rangers have also been linked with another Super Eagles forward, Josh Maja whose exit from French Ligue 2 side Bordeaux is complicated at the moment.

While Dessers has seemingly rejected a move to Rangers, he won’t be short of alternatives as Torino have expressed an interest in him.

Despite his struggles in his first season in Italy, the Turin-based outfit want to acquire his services.

The former Eredivisie top scorer could only manage 7 goals and two assists in 29 appearances in all competitions last season.

With Cremonese’s relegation to Serie B, they want to recoup more than the 6.5 million euros they paid Racing Genk for his services last summer in order to mitigate the financial loss from getting relegated.
