According to Dean Ammi, Senegal winger Sadio Mane has beaten Riyad Mahrez to the CAF African Player of the Year award for 2019.

The Liverpool forward has come in first place after winning the UEFA Champions League with his club, as well as making the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal.

Algerian winger Mahrez has come in second place, despite winning AFCON with his country as well as four trophies with Man City under Pep Guardiola.

However, a lack of playing time at the Etihad has led to Mahrez not being considered for the top prize. All three players featured in the top ten of the 2019 Ballon D’Or earlier this month.

Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has come in third position. Like Mane, he also won the Champions League. Salah bowed out of the AFCON in his home nation at the last 16 stage, but was a big part of Liverpool’s campaign in Europe.

Mahrez won the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Community Shield in 2019 giving him every trophy possible in English football.
