Revealed! Why Ighalo Retired from Super Eagles

That Odion Ighalo retired from the Super Eagles when it was least expected has continued to generate possible reasons on what could have led to the unforeseen decision.

Ighalo’s decision to dump the national team sparked reactions from Nigerians,  with many believed he left when the national team needed him most.

But, according to former Super Eagles goalkeeper,  Ike Shorunmi  the 30-year-old is too young to dumb the national team duty and would want to believe that the long distance flight from his base in china could not be overruled as a factor.

“The case of Mikel was not so much of a surprise, unlike that of Ighalo, who I felt could still carry on till 2022.“

“I think the difficulty of travelling a long distance from China to Nigeria may have caused him to think about ending his national team duties.“

“He is getting older and the chances of getting injuries are higher. That can be made worse with long-distance flights from China.”

Ighalo retired from the national team duties after he helped Nigeria to a third place finish at concluded 2019 African Cup of nations in Egypt, few hours after Captain John Mikel Obi also hanged his boots.

Ighalo played at Russia FIFA 2018 world cup ,  before finishing as the top scorer of 2019 African cup of nations in Egypt and scored the total of 12 goals for Nigeria.
