Rigobert Song declares “We respect Osimhen but don’t fear him

Ahead of today’s AFCON knockout encounter between the Super Eagles and Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, the Lions coach Rigobert Song has declared that there is no room for fear in today’s battle of wits.  According to the former Cameroon international Nigeria’s danger man Victor Osimhen is respected but not feared. He however revealed that the Napoli striker and reigning African footballer of the year is one player in the Eagles line up they lions will have to keep an eye on.

The former Lille of France ace who is currently being chased by a lot of clubs in the Europe  has only managed one goal in three games which was against Equatorial Guinea.

Despite not setting the AFCON 2023 alight yet, Osimhen is one player the Cameroonians would be wary of because of the threat he carries.But Song insisted that it would be out of place to be scared of Osimhen.

“Osimhen is a big player,” Song was quoted on uk.sports.yahoo.com.

“We know him and respect him. But respecting him doesn’t mean that we should fear him.”

The two-time AFCON winner explained what his players must do to get the better of their rival.

“We are focused to play and avoid engaging in emotions. We must apply our philosophy and technique to win … We cannot be worried about a football game.

“We will approach this match with confidence and the outcome we want will come.”

The Indomitable Lions received a major boost when Captain Vicent Aboubakar bounced back from injury. He is expected to lead the Cameroonian attack just like he did in 2021 when the nation hosted the tournament and ended up as third place winners.
