Rodgers shut down hints linking him to Man Utd job
Brendan Rodgers has shut down reports linking him with the Manchester United job after the Red Devils were said to have made him their number one target to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Leicester City manager has branded the speculation “really disrespectful” and “not real” in a strong response to the rumours.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Foxes’ Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday, Rodgers was asked about the possibility of taking over from Solskjaer, who is under immense scrutiny at Old Trafford.
“Firstly, it’s really disrespectful for you [a reporter] to ask the question when there is a manager in place – a good manager and a good man – who’s working at the club,” the former Liverpool manager stated.

“And secondly, I can’t really comment on it because it’s something that’s not real.

“I’m here as the Leicester City manager; proud to be here, privileged to be here and fully committed to the players, the club and the ownership.
“And that’s about it, really. All the other noise around that, is something we can’t control.”
Rodgers added: “The only other club I’m thinking about is Chelsea and getting ready for that.
“It’s obviously frustrating for supporters and also my players, if anyone is to read anything out there, then of course that can destabilise [us].
“But from a personal perspective, it’s something that it’s in the modern game.
“Even much more so now – lots of speculation, lots of gossip – it’s all part of the game, but something I have no focus on whatsoever.”
The Northern Irishman is reportedly admired by the Old Trafford hierarchy, who are said to be keen on appointing a British manager if they pull the trigger on Solskjaer.
However, that has not stopped links with Zinedine Zidane and Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.
For now, though, Solskjaer remains United manager and has the task of getting back to winning ways at Watford on Saturday.
The Norwegian has been back in his homeland over the international break but returned to Manchester this week with the aim of recovering a dismal derby defeat at the hands of rivals City last time out.
