Rodgers still on cloud nine after Iheanacho’s remarkable night

Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, is still on cloud nine celebrating the remarkable outing of Nigeria forward, Kelechi Iheanacho against Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League.

Iheanacho’s performance showed the importance of not letting your head drop, Rodgers believes, with the striker bouncing back from a shaky start to play a pivotal role in Leicester City’s 3-0 win over Luhansk.

Iheanacho set up the first two goals, for James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, and then scored the third, having been sloppy in his passing in the opening 10 minutes.

Retaining self-confidence was the key to Iheanacho’s fine display, and it ensured Jamie Vardy, watching from the stands, was not missed too much.

“He gives everything, Kelechi. He’s a great player for our squad. You see when he comes into the game, he gives his all. He could have been a bit more precise with one or two passes; the one where James got in, he could have played it a little earlier, but he has the extra touch. And there were a couple of other moments.

“But he doesn’t get disappointed. He keeps going, and his finish was fantastic. He’s under pressure, spins out of it and shoots off his right foot. He gave everything to the game and deserved his goal.”
