Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has called off this evening training after Tuesday’s morning session with the players that formally kicked off preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The players who trained at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo from 10am have been told to make use of the gym at the team’s Le Meridien Hotel in the evening.

There was no reason for the cancellation by Rohr who has less than three weeks to assemble a team for the World Cup.

“That is what would be happening this evening. The head coach wants them to be at the gym to loosen up instead of staying in their rooms,” confirmed Team Media Officer Toyin Ibitoye.  Ibitoye said training resumes on Wednesday.

According to Ibitoye 17 players including Leicester of England midfielder Wilfred Ndidi took part in the team’s training session this morning ahead of next week’s international friendly against Congo DR in Portharcourt.

Ndidi, who has not played since suffering a hamstring injury on April 28 jogged with his teammates before having a separate session with the team’s physiotherapist.

Tuesday’s session was also an opportunity for Rohr and his assistants to personally observe the players especially those who are recovering from injury.
