Super Eagles trainer Gernot Rohr is confident his inspirational captain John Mikel Obi would be fit and ready for the team’s last preliminary Group D match against Argentina at the Saint Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday.
Mikel has been widely praised for doing a Yeoman’s job in the 2-0 defeat of Iceland at the Volgograd Arena on Friday but had a knock towards of the match clutching his hands.
But Rohr is very hopeful about Mikel availability for Tuesday’s decisive match against Argentina .
“ I think he only had a knock on the big part of his body and he was tired because he did so much work for us today,” the self-styled Franco-German coach said after the battle of Volgograd was won on Friday.
“ He( Mikel) was running up and down because it was much work for him in his new role in the midfield but there’s no big injury; and he would be ready for the next game again Argentina.”
Meanwhile, Rohr says he has nothing but plaudits for the manner his wards had fought back into reckoning with the 2-0 classy performance over Iceland after losing 2-0 to Croatia in their opening match at Russia 2018.
“One thig I like about my team is the humility , solidarity and the team spirit,” he said. “Though we still made mistake because we conceded two penalties in two matches ; this mistake is always done by young players but we have a big chance against Argentina.”
