Rohr happy over Mikel’s move to Middlesbrough

Super Eagles technical adviser Gernot Rohr is happy that the team’s captain John Mikel has found a new club in Europe with his latest move to the English Championship side Middlesbrough, SportingLife.ng reports.
Mikel signed the deal until the end of the season after he passed a medical and agreed personal terms.
The 31-year-old former Chelsea midfielder is a free agent after leaving China’s Tianjin Teda by mutual consent this month.
The German tactician, who was at the Agege Stadium on Wednesday to watch the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match day 4 clash between MFM and Rangers International, said Mikel’s move to European football will help him to earn his national team come back.
Rohr said he would be glad to welcome Mikel back to Eagles’ fold if he is playing regularly.
“I am very happy about it because it is very long time he played. Mikel is a player we want to play in Europe and come back to the national team. His family is there (England) and I am happy for him that he found a good club again,” Rohr told SportingLife.ng.
He added: “He needs a lot of playing time because we didn’t see him since after the world cup. He needs to play well which is applicable to other players too, and if he plays regularly there is chance for him to come to the national team. He hasn’t told me he is not coming back and I will be happy to have him in the team again.”
Mikel’s girlfriend, Olga Diyachenko, and their twin daughters live in London and he has been keen to return to England.
