Monday’s draw left Jose Mourinho’s Roma side one point behind fifth-placed Atalanta and four off AC Milan in fourth with two games remaining.
Salernitana took a shock 12th-minute lead through midfielder Antonio Candreva after a cross by Lassana Coulibaly.
Roma equalised just after the break thanks to Stephan El Shaarawy but Boulaye Dia put Salernitana back in front before Nemanja Matic levelled for the hosts seven minutes from time.
