Ronaldo needs a rest! – Sarri

Juventus boss, Maurizio Sarri, has revealed why he’s leaving Cristiano Ronaldo out of his squad against Lecce, saying that the player needs some rest.

Cristiano Ronaldo not ready for retirement

Ronaldo has started all but one of Juventus’ games so far this season and scored five goals in 10 games in all competitions but will be missing on Saturday.

Sarri was quick to dispel suggestions that Ronaldo had been dropped for the clash and said it was an opportunity for him to recharge his batteries.

‘With Cristiano, we speak often,’ he said at his pre-match news conference.

‘Even for him there will be need for rest. We’ll see based on how he’s feeling. I don’t know when, we will decide.

‘Right now we don’t have a lot of options in order to completely rotate the squad. We’ll change things with regards to the conditions of the players.’

Sarri is also keen to rest centre-back Leonardo Bonucci, but the veteran will feature from the start against Lecce.

‘Leonardo Bonucci has played a lot this season and he’s needed to. We’ll see if we can give him a rest over the next few games,’ he added.
