This is bad news for Liverpool fans, who are desperate to keep Salah for the rest of the 2023-24 campaign.

His departure could derail their season and Jurgen Klopp’s entire project at Anfield, with the club trying to bounce back from a difficult previous campaign.

Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad are willing to pay over £120m to sign the Egypt international this summer.

The latest offer tops the £118m fee the Middle Eastern mega-spenders were preparing as they tried to convince the Reds to sell.

However, Liverpool have continued to insist that any such offers for the 31-year-old would be rejected given Salah’s importance to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Moreover, a late sale of Salah would leave Liverpool in deep trouble especially if the deal is completed in September.

Salah is said to be Saudi Arabia’s biggest move of the summer having already brought in Brazilian star Neymar from PSG in August.

The Al-Ittihad negotiations continue the trend of targeting Liverpool players with lucrative transfers to the Middle East after several other big names left Anfield for the riches offered by the Kingdom.

Jordan Henderson gave up the club captaincy to join Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, while Fabinho and Roberto Firmino also got exits.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson and centre-back Ibrahima Konate were also the subject of interest but wanted to continue at the Premier League giants.
