Scott Carson signs new Manchester City contract

Manchester City have confirmed that goalkeeper Scott Carson has signed a new one-year contract until the summer of 2024.

The 37-year-old initially joined the Citizens on a two-year loan in 2019 before signing on a free transfer in 2021 when his contract at Derby County expired.

Carson has acted as a third-choice goalkeeper during his time at the Etihad Stadium, providing cover for first-choice Ederson and number two Stefan Ortega this season, and has only made two senior appearances under Pep Guardiola

The experienced shot-stopper made his City debut against Newcastle United in May 2021, saving a penalty in a thrilling 4-3 Premier League victory, before making his second appearance in the Champions League last-16 second-leg clash with Sporting Lisbon last season.

Carson, a former England international who has represented 10 different clubs throughout his career, offers invaluable experience to Guardiola’s squad and has decided to extend his stay at the Etihad by 12 months.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Carson said: “I’m excited to be staying at City for the 2023/24 season.

“I love working with Pep, Xabi Mancisidor and our incredible players every day. Hopefully I can help all of our goalkeepers be at their best.”

Carson could be selected in the matchday squad for Man City’s final Premier League game of the season away against Brentford on Sunday.
