Serie A: Leao recovering faster than expected for Milan

Rafael Leao is recovering much faster than expected from a thigh strain and has already started training, so could even make his comeback against Atalanta this weekend.

The striker pulled out after just 10 minutes in the 2-2 Serie A draw against Lecce on November 11.

He was diagnosed with a lesion to the thigh and missed big matches against Borussia Dortmund, Fiorentina and Frosinone.

This morning, medical scans showed the lesion has fully healed and the Portugal international was therefore allowed to resume training.

According to Sky Sport Italia, he wasted no time and immediately started to work on the field, with the aim of stepping up the intensity tomorrow.

If he feels no pain, there is a very good chance that Leao can make his comeback in the showdown with Atalanta on Saturday in Bergamo.

This is already an advance, as until a few hours ago it was assumed he would only just be fit enough to play the Champions League decider with Newcastle United next Wednesday.

There was more good news, as Simon Kjaer is also back in the squad, but is likely to at best be on the bench against Atalanta.
