Serie A: Red-hot Ronaldo sends Juve four points clear

Cristiano Ronaldo continued his superb form in front of goal for Juventus, who moved four points clear at the top of Serie A with a 2-1 win over SPAL.

The visitors had the first meaningful opening after 11 minutes when Alex Sandro’s cross found Juan Cuadrado, who skewed his volley wide from close range.

Other than the early effort from Cuadrado, chances in the first half were hard to come by at both ends of the pitch until SPAL went close on 34 minute through Andrea Petagna, who headed just wide of the mark.

Five minutes later, Juventus broke the deadlock as Cuadrado turned provider to pick out Ronaldo at the far post, with the Portuguese making no mistake from close range.

It was the 11th successive Serie A game where Ronaldo has founding the back of the net, equalling the record held by Sampdoria’s Fabio Quagliarella.

Maurizio Sarri’s men had to wait until the the 60th minutes for the second goal, with Aaron Ramsey getting on the score-sheet with a close-range finish after latching onto Paulo Dybala’s pass.

SPAL were afforded a lifeline six minutes later after being awarded a penalty after Video Assitant Referee check, which allowed Petagna to slot home and reduce the deficit.

Ronaldo nearly added to the tally with five minutes left in the contest but his free-kick rattled against the crossbar as the encounter ended 2-1 to the defending champions.

Fellow title chasers Lazio and Inter Milan are both in action on Sunday.
