Serie A: Roma coach Mourinho suspended against Inter

José Mourinho has officially been suspended for one Serie A match, meaning he won’t be on the bench at the Stadio Meazza against his former club Inter, on Sunday.

The Portuguese coach was sent off in the final minutes of Roma’s 1-0 win over Monza on Sunday as he celebrated a late Stephan El Shaarawy winner by mocking Raffaele Palladino and his players miming a ‘crying’ gesture.

The Sporting Judge has confirmed Mourinho will be suspended for one game, meaning he will miss the next Serie A fixture against his former club Inter. Nuno Santos, one of Mourinho’s assistants, was also sent off against Monza and won’t be on the bench against Inter.

Roma were also fined € 10,000 for ‘objective responsibility’ as their ball boys were slow in giving the ball back to players on the pitch after El Shaarawy’s goal.

Roma will play in Europa League on Thursday, but Mourinho is facing a European ban too having received a four-match suspension following last season’s Final against Sevilla, lost by the Giallorossi on penalties.
