Shooting Stars beat Beyond Limits FA, claim ValueJet Cup

Shooting Stars FC beat lower league side Beyond Limits Football Academy 2-0 to win the 2023 ValueJet Cup pre-season football tournament, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, Nigeria.

On Tuesday, Beyond Limits beat Group A runners-up Kwara United on penalties after a stalemate in regulation time to reach the final. For Shooting Stars, they beat Group A winners and hosts Remo Stars FC 3-0 in Tuesday’s semi-finals to reach the final.

Shooting Stars’ Taofeek Malomo headed in a cross from Joshua Akpan to open the scoring in the 17th minute. However, the Ibadan-based club extended its lead six minutes later through Gali Falke.

Beyond Limits FA looked for a way back into the encounter but were always met by the resilient defence of Shooting Stars.

Shooting Stars goalkeeper Darlington Ovunda made several saves to keep his side in the game while they also kept their foes under check several times with several counter-attacks as the match finished 2-0

Shooting Stars received a cash prize of two million Naira and a trophy for winning the competition.

The tournament’s closing ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Ekene Adams, Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Sports.

Also, the immediate-past First Vice-President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Seyi Akinwunmi, was in attaendance as well as Ganiyu Majekodunmi, the Ogun State Football Association Chairman and NFF Executive Committee member.
