South South Derby: It’s no victor no vanquished

 

Bayelsa United and Rivers United settled for a 2-2 draw in one of the mid week matches of the Nigeria professional league at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa Wednesday.

Though some had predicted that visitors Rivers United would have the upper hand judging from their current form but a determine Bayelsa United in search of a win in recent time put all the arsenal in the armory into the match.

In after match staticstics put the homers ahead in terms of ball possession with 57% to Rivers United’s 43%. The Garden City boys however produced more shot on goal with nine shots as opposed to Bayelsa’s eight shots on goal.

Rivers lived up to initial permutations shooting into the lead in the leads thanks to Chiamaka Madu in the 35th minute. Daniel Ekpo however levelled up for the Yenagoa landlords in the 51st minute.

Malachi Ohawume again put Rivers ahead and the Confederation Cup campaigners were looking as if they were running away with a 2-1 win before Robert Mizo levelled up in the first minute of added time to leave the scoreline at 2-2 with each team having a point for their sweat and struggle.

Bayelsa United will next visit Rangers International of Enugu in what promises to be another cracker. But there are indications that the game may be postponed for the Presidential election billed for Saturday.

As for Rivers United they will have to take a break from the league to storm Kinshasha for Confederation Cup battle against Motema Pembe on Sunday.

In the second midweek match Kwara United defeated El-kanemi Warriors 2-1. Recall that the Warriors suffered huge defeat in the hands of Plateau United recently, conceding seven goals and scoring one in two matches.
