Super Falcons: Disappointed but not disgraced!

That is the way it goes. In every match a winner and a loser must emerge. There is no two ways about it, especially when it gets to the knock out stage of the world cup and any competition for that matter. It is only in the group stage that you can afford to make a mistake and have an opportunity to correct it in the next match, but once the men have been separated from the boys and the ladies separated from the girls it is between the pitch and the exit doors.

out but not beaten

The Super Falcons did their best which was not enough to push them into the quarterfinals. The team will have to wait for yet another four years to attempt to replicate what they achieved 24 years ago when they were able to hit the quarterfinals. But be that as it may it is fair to say the team worked very hard in today’s encounter against England. Some would say they should have capitalised on the red card that sent danger lady Lauren James packing and also insist on converting their penalties.

Easier said, than done! Playing under intense pressure has never been easy for any team and surviving it is usually not a matter of wishes, a lot come into play including luck which penalty sometimes represents. No player goes to face a goalkeeper for a penalty and has mind set on missing it. They always want to score but sometimes it never happens.

So they Falcons survived everything including brouhaha over bonuses which most teams avoid to reduce distractions to make it to the last 16. It was a good outing that should have been better. The ladies may have been edged out but they were certainly not disgraced, at least that much many of their fans agree.

“We are out of the #FIFAWWC no thanks to a 4-2 penalty loss to the European champions in Brisbane!

“We gave our best, but our journey comes to an end here😥😥”

Even a die-hard England supporter agrees that Falcons gave it their all.

@minkyv23 says “I am an England supporter but boy at times I thought the falcons where the dominant team well done ladies you where utterly amazing”
