Team Nigeria weightlifters claim more medals at African Games
Team Nigeria’s weightlifters team amassed six more medals at the ongoing 2023 All Africa Games in Ghana, as the duo of Desmond Akano and Adebayo Adeyemi won six medals on Day 5 of the Weightlifting event.
The team won three Silver and three Bronze medals in different categories of the event. Akano, competing in 96kg, snatched 145kg and recorded 191kg in clean and jerk to have a total of 336kg to win a silver and two bronze medals.
Following his father’s footprint, 21-year-old Adeyemi stunned the competition as he showed that he is the true son of an old horse in the game. Adeyemi was injured during the competition in the 106kg category and was rewarded with two silver and a bronze medal.

He snatched 151kg, recorded 190kg in clean and jerk with a total of 241 to win two silver and a bronze medals
Nigeria’s Weightlifting team currently has a total of 26 medals, which is made up of 15 Gold, five Silver and six Bronze medals at the 13th edition of the African Games.
The weightlifting event, which started on Sunday at the University of Ghana in Accra, is expected to end on Friday, match 15th, 2024.
