Telkom Cup knockout stage: Akpeyi turns hero for Kaizer Chiefs, saves 2 penalties

Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was the hero for Kaizer Chiefs who have progressed to the semi final of the Telkom Cup on Saturday at the expense of perennial rivals Orlando Pirates.

Daniel Akpeyi's penalty saves

The Super Eagles goalkeeper who has continued to prove his worth for the South Africa premier league side since joining from Chippa United saved two penalties after the match had ended 1-1 in regulation time.

Akpeyi saved the spot kicks of Motshwari and Mabaso before Parker scored the decider which sent Chiefs into the last four.

Interestingly the two goals were scored in the 94th and 100th minutes of the encounter with Kaizer Chiefs drawing the first blood.

He was also the hero last week when Chiefs faced Mamelodi Sundown in a local derby.

No doubt, Akpeyi’s renewed form has led to his recall for this month’s Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Lesotho and Benin Republic after he was shut out by head coach, Gernot Rohr since the Nations Cup in July.
