Tennis: Emma Raducanu to face Iga Swiatek in Stuttgart Open quarter-finals

British number one Emma Raducanu set up a Stuttgart Open quarter-final showdown with world number one Iga Swiatek after overcoming Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch in three sets on Thursday.

The US Open champion had cruised past Australian qualifier Storm Sanders in the round of 32 and was on the front foot against Korpatsch – serving the German a bagel in the opening set.

Raducanu was fighting an uphill battle in the second, though, with Korpatsch levelling proceedings before the Brit rediscovered her magic touch to record a 6-0 2-6 6-1 victory.

“Iga is in great form and it will be an interesting match. I feel like I have no pressure going out there on clay and playing against her,” Raducanu said during her on-court interview.

“There are no expectations on me in the match-up but I’m looking forward to seeing what happens.”

Raducanu – who has won back-to-back games for the first time in 2022 – is only 18 months Swiatek’s junior and will face Laura Siegemund or Ludmilla Samsonova should she battle past the 2020 French Open champion.
