Tension as Chilean star drags Barcelona to court over unpaid bonuses

Arturo Vidal’s future at Barcelona has taken its most bizarre turn yet.

The Chilean has regularly been linked with a return to Italy in January and those rumours will only intensify after revelations that Vidal is actually suing the Blaugrana.

According to Spanish publication ABC, Vidal’s lawyers have contacted to Barca to take legal action over £2m in unpaid bonuses.

The combative midfielder made 53 appearances in all competitions for the club last season as they stormed to the La Liga title and reached the Champions League semi-final.

Vidal was reportedly owed an extra £3.5m on top of his basic salary for having appeared in over 60% of Barca’s games in all competitions, but only received £1.5m.

Barca are currently contesting the claim as they say Vidal did not complete more than 45 minutes in enough games to warrant the bonus and that the clauses have been misinterpreted by his lawyers.

As such, Vidal’s legal team have taken action and the situation typifies Vidal’s rocky time in Catalonia over the past few months.

The experienced Chilean has never been a regular starter since his move from Bayern Munich and reportedly stormed out of training when he was informed that he would not be starting El Clasico a few weeks back.
