Thierry Henry dreams success with Montreal Impact

Thierry Henry highlighted the importance of recovering from his nightmare spell in charge of Monaco during his unveiling as the new manager of Montreal Impact.

The former Arsenal striker was handed his second opportunity in the hot seat with the MLS club despite his failings at his boyhood side in France, and revealed he was confident he could achieve success without large resources.

Henry had penned a two-year contract and is tasked with hauling the club out of mid-table obscurity ahead of the new campaign.

The 42-year-old holds a UEFA Pro licence and boasts coaching experience with the Belgian national team before and throughout the 2018 World Cup.

But his first venture into management ended abruptly with Monaco, after Henry was sacked just four months into his reign with the club languishing near the drop zone.

Despite the setback, the ex-New York Red Bulls star will be afforded time to stamp his identity in the United States in a similar fashion to former teammate Patrick Vieira.

And Henry reflected on his past failings during his first press conference at the helm of his new side.

He said: ‘You have to start somewhere. That’s how you acquire experience. For me it came with Belgium and Monaco, where I learned a lot about myself.

‘It’s about fighting. This isn’t just my story but the story of everyone in life. Everyone falls. It’s about how you get up.’

‘It didn’t work out in Monaco (as a coach). I can give you a lot of excuses but at the end of the day it didn’t work out and I am here as a coach of Montreal.

‘I learned a lot there. The only mistake you can make is not learning from what happened. You have to confront it.’
