Tottenham ‘sends scouts to Brazil to watch Gremio starlet

Brazil winger, Everton Soares, has been watched by Tottenham scouts as the north London club weigh up a January move.

Spurs’ chief scout Steve Hitchen was in attendance to see the 23-year-old play for Gremio in a Copa Libertadores semi-final first leg against Flamengo.

Everton impressed, setting up his side’s only goal during a 1-1 draw.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to add another attacker to his squad with uncertainty remaining over Christian Eriksen’s future, while the club missed out on Paulo Dybala of Juventus this summer.

Having risen through the ranks at Gremio, Soares has played 245 games, scoring 63 goals, since his debut in 2013.

Soares made his international debut for Brazil in August 2018, and shot to prominence during the Copa America this summer.

He finished the tournament with three goals, missing out on the Golden Boot prize to Paolo Guerrero having played seven minutes more, and scored the opener as Brazil won the final.

Everton was at one point a target for Arsenal, but after signing Nicolas Pepe for £72million in the summer, the Gunners are unlikely to pursue the winger any further.
