Tottenham slap £150m price tag on Harry Kane

Potential buyers for Harry Kane will have to dole out a whooping £150million to have any chance of prising the England captain from Tottenham.

Kane, 27, is in the peak years of his career and has scored 21 goals this season. With Manchester City and Manchester United likely to be in the market for a traditional No 9 at the end of the campaign, Kane’s name is bound to be on any shortlist.

But it is understood that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy would want an enormous offer of £150m before he even considers a deal.

Such a fee would make Kane the third most expensive footballer of all time after Paris Saint-Germain pair Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Kane is contracted to Spurs until 2024 on a deal worth around £200,000 a week. Topping those wages for a club such as City or United would not be a problem but the price represents a big ask at a time when clubs are approaching almost a year without any revenue from ticket sales.

Tottenham’s stance has always been that Kane is not for sale and that remains the case. But the London club have financial pressures of their own — not to mention a mortgage on their new stadium — and Kane represents their most saleable asset.

City are on the lookout for a replacement for Sergio Aguero, who is 33 in June and has missed most of this season with illness and injury.

United, meanwhile, have a range of attacking options including Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial but do not have a player who can be relied upon for 20 Premier League goals a season.

Kane has long been rated as one of the top goalscorers in the world but so far does not have a medal to his name and, with Tottenham in uncertain form, is by no means guaranteed Champions League — or even Europa League football next season.
