Trainer: ‘Ronaldo recharging batteries’

Cristiano Ronaldo’s former trainer, Leonel Pontes, believes the forced rest caused by the coronavirus pandemic “will help him recharge his batteries” and be even stronger for Juventus.

Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a coronavirus message to fans from Portugal

The 35-year-old is back home in Madeira during the lockdown that has ground sport to a halt, a rare period of time off from a packed fixture list.

“This rest, especially at his age, will help him recharge his batteries, retain that hunger and desire to play,” talent scout and trainer Leonel Pontes told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The incredible thing is not that Ronaldo is so good at 35, but his consistency. It’s simply inhuman to be at the top level for so many years, changing countries, teams and even positions.”

So far this season, Ronaldo has scored 25 goals in 32 competitive games for Juventus, also providing four assists.
