Transfer: Why Ndidi Forest move failed

Wilfred Ndidi will stay put at relegated Leicester City after a proposed transfer back to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest did not go through on Deadline Day.

Ndidi, 26, had agreed personal terms with Forest, who instead went for priority target at Ivorian defensive midfielder Ibrahim Sangare from Dutch club PSV after they sold Brennan Johnson to Tottenham Hotspur for a record.

Forest have been tracking Sangare since last summer and with part of the cash from the Johnson transfer, they could finally afford him.

The Super Eagles midfielder was therefore only a second option for Forest.

Ndidi could now move for free should he not sign a new contract with Leicester City.

His current deal will run out next summer.
