Transfer window: Ancelotti ‘wants Chelsea’s Reece James at Real Madrid’

Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti, has reportedly identified Chelsea right-back, Reece James, as a summer transfer target.

The 22-year-old has not been without his injury problems this season but has still managed six goals and seven assists in 31 appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s side across all competitions.

James has already faced Real Madrid twice in the Champions League this season, playing the full 210 minutes across both legs of Chelsea’s quarter-final exit to Los Blancos.

According to The Mirror, Ancelotti and Real Madrid chiefs were keeping a close eye on James during their Champions League clash with Chelsea and liked what they saw from the England international.

The report adds that Real will likely have to offload numerous fringe players before making a move for James, with the defender unlikely to be available on the cheap despite the uncertainty surrounding Chelsea’s ownership situation.

James has scored nine goals and set up 15 more in 115 appearances for Chelsea after rising through their youth ranks and remains contracted to the club until 2025.
