Transfer window: Rodgers in talks with Rangers to seal Joe Aribo’s transfer

Leicester City have been linked with a move for Rangers forward, Joe Aribo.

According to media outlet Fichajes, via Football. Scotland, Aribo is of interest to City ahead of the re-opening of the transfer window in January.

It is being claimed that City and their Premier League rivals Aston Villa have ‘contacted’ Rangers about a potential move for the in-form Aribo.

He has scored or assisted in five of Rangers’ last eight Scottish Premiership goals.

Villa, managed by Aribo’s former boss in Glasgow, Steven Gerrard, would no doubt have the edge over any other club.

But City boss Brendan Rodgers knows the Scottish Premiership well because of his trophy-laden stint with Celtic before he moved to the East Midlands nearly three years ago.

Aribo has netted six times and has set up four goals for his teammates in 20 Scottish Premiership matches this season.

The Nigerian forward, who can play as an attacking midfielder or on the wing, is out of contract in 18 months and could be a bargain pick-up for a club soon.

As far as City are concerned, they are well-stocked in midfield and on the wings, but with Rodgers’ side in the grip of an injury crisis they could see value in adding bodies in January.

Rangers legend Barry Ferguson recently spoke about Aribo’s form and said a transfer to the Premier League was bound to happen sooner rather than later.

“It seems inevitable now that someone is going to come knocking when the window opens, be it Gerrard or some other manager from England’s top flight,” Ferguson wrote in the Daily Record earlier this month.

“They all know Rangers are looking to trade their top players because the board has been pretty open about it.

“If an offer comes in that matches the club’s valuation then they’ll do business.
