Transfer window: Wolves chief in talks with Barbosa and others to boost team

Wolves are ready to hold talks over the signing of Brazil striker Gabriel Barbosa, as well as another South American addition.

Barbosa has revived his career since returning to Brazil in 2018 after a doomed spell at Inter Milan. A loan spell with Santos got him back on track before he joined Flamengo in 2019. Since then, he has won nine trophies, scoring 101 goals along the way from just 155 games.

It means he has earned back his Gabigol nickname after previously flopping in Italy, where he scored just once in 10 Inter appearances.

There has been talk for a while that Barbosa could get another chance in European football. In fact, he could land in the Premier League, where he has a number of suitors.

According to 90min, Wolves have touched base with his entourage. Now, they are ready to take things further by sending chief scout Matthew Hobbs to South America in order to discuss a deal.

Wolves will hope their action can help them beat a range of rival suitors for Barbosa’s signature. He is also on the radars of Aston Villa and Newcastle, as well as Turkish side Fenerbahce.

But Hobbs will try to secure a deal for Wolves to win the race to sign him – just as he is aiming to do so for Enzo Fernandez.

Indeed, the report claims he will also visit Argentina to explore a deal for the River Plate midfielder. Like with Barbosa, Wolves have contacted Fernandez’s representatives and are now making further progress.

In that particular transfer battle, they are hoping to beat Benfica to his signature. There have also been links with heavyweights like Manchester United and Barcelona.
