Troost-Ekong in super form as Udinese hit Cagliari 2-1

Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong was in excellent form Saturday as his Italian league side Udinese humbled visiting Cagliari at the Dacia Arena

Ekong who was in action for the entire duration of the match ensured that visitors were given close marking and prevented from causing damage in Udinese vital areas.

His effort and that of his teammates paid off as they ran away with a 2-1 victory coming on the heels of losses to Juventus and Lazio respectively.

Argentina import Rodrigo Javier De Paul shot Udinese into the lead in the 39th minute after enjoying a timely assist from Ivorian star Seko Fofana. The visitors however responded in the 84th minute thanks to João Pedro even as the visitors mounted pressures and looked good to either settle for a draw or run away with surprise win.

With 54% domineering possession Cagliari appeared bent on compounding the woes of their hosts.  It was however an 85th minute goal by hard working Folana who combined effectively with Troost-Ekong to ensure that Udinese fans had cause to smile despite the team’s unimpressive position on the league table.

Udinese have only managed to garner 18 points in 17 matches played so far occupying the 14th position on the log.

In the English premier league Super Eagles ace Alex Iwobi could only manage a 10 minutes action for Everton after picking an injury in the goalless draw against Arsenal on Saturday at the Goodinson Park.

The Toffees will however be hoping that the injury to Iwobi doesn’t turn out to be serious as they seek improvement under new coach Carlo Ancelotti who watched the match with maximum attention.
