U23 assignment stops Duru, Lazarus from Champions League tie

Lobi Stars duo of Chidiebere Duru and John Lazarus will be missing from the Pride of Benue squad as they face ASEC Mimosas today in their dead rubber CAF Champions League tie at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium,
Enugu.
The Nigerian league reigning champions are already out of the lucrative club competition after they were thrashed 3-0 by Mamelodi Sundowns but the two players returned to the camp of the U23 Eagles
immediately after their return from Pretoria and the management of Lobi Stars has not asked for their recall which made them unavailable for the game.
Duru told SportingLife.ng that he and Lazarus are presently with the Olympic Eagles alongside another of their teammate with Lobi Stars but was not registered for the CAF Champions League, Udochukwu Amunudu.
He said the three of them are angling to be selected for the African U23 Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya in Tunisia slated for Wednesday next week before the return leg in Asaba, Delta State on Monday 25th March 2019.
“We are out of the CAF Champions League tie with ASEC but we are wishing our team well as they step out against ASEC Mimosas tomorrow. I know that our services are needed in the game but we are also wanted
by our country and we must respect that,” Duru told SportingLife.ng.
“I will be glad if we are able to beat them so that we will be above them in the third position. It will be a consolation for our elimination from the competition. I know that my teammates will do a good job in our absence because we know that it is just proper we are able to end the group stage on a winning note.”
Lobi Stars are currently fourth in Group A with four points from five games and are three points below their today’s opponents who are in the third spot and they will only finish above them if they are able
to win by clear two goals difference.
