UCL: Rashford, Martial may miss Bayern clash at Old Trafford

Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial are a doubt for Man United ahead of today’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich after both players missed training on Monday.

Both attackers have emerged as doubts as they were unavailable to link up with the rest of the first-team squad at Carrington due to illness.

Rashford was absent from first-team training on Friday due to illness, but he was named on the substitutes’ bench for last Saturday’s humbling 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth in the Premier League before coming on for the final 11 minutes plus stoppage time.

Martial, meanwhile, was handed a start ahead of Rasmus Hojlund up front, but the Frenchman was unable to make the desired impact in the final third and was replaced just before the hour mark.

There was some positive news from Carrington, though, as Lisandro Martinez was spotted training with the main group, although the defender primarily focused on individual exercises as he continued his rehabilitation from a foot injury.

Martinez underwent a second foot operation in early October and he is not expected to return to first-team action until the New Year, but his return to training is at least a positive sign for the Red Devils.

In addition, Victor Lindelof was present in training after manager Erik ten Hag expressed doubts over the Swede’s fitness at his pre-match press conference on Monday.

“It’s a condensed programme so we have a training [session later], so at this moment, I’m not sure about everyone, who’s available for tomorrow,” Ten Hag told reporters.

“But the question mark is on Victor Lindelof, whether he can make it or not. We have to wait and see until tomorrow.”

Lindelof was forced to miss last weekend’s loss to Bournemouth due to an unspecified injury, but the defender could be in a position to return to the matchday squad for the clash with Bayern.

Amad Diallo was also involved in first-team training having recently recovered from a long-term knee injury, but the winger is ineligible to play for Man United on Tuesday as he was not selected in the club’s Champions League squad.
