UCL: They always blamed me when PSG were eliminated – Silva

Thiago Silva was delighted to get his hands on the UEFA Champions League title, especially as he feels he was always made to be the “culprit” for Paris Saint-Germain’s failure to win it previously.

Silva and manager Thomas Tuchel were losing finalists with PSG in the 2019/20 Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

That proved to be the Brazilian’s final game for Les Parisiens before he joined the Blues on a free transfer, while Tuchel took over at Stamford Bridge from Frank Lampard in January this year.

The defender was delighted to finally claim the continental trophy on the past weekend, believing he was made to be a scapegoat for the French club’s failures in the UCL previously.

“It’s incredible. It’s the most important moment of my career. It’s unforgettable,” Silva told RMC Sport.

“I am really very happy. To have this cup is huge. My injury? A lot of things have happened in my head.

“Getting out of the game very early was difficult for me. But at this level, we cannot be at 70%. But I’m happy because the team stayed calm and defended well.

“We suffered, but we did it well. In the end, we are rewarded for everything we have done. It’s special for me, especially considering the pressure we had in Paris to win it.

“Whenever Paris was eliminated, people wanted to find a culprit and it was me all the time. It’s too bad.

“I hope Paris will win it in the future, because I left a lot of friends there. And I will always stay red and blue.”
