UCL: Varane doubtful for Chelsea tie, set to undergo tests on Monday

Real Madrid central defender Raphael Varane was substituted at half-time in the league game against Osasuna after having a muscle problem in his right leg. He rested on Sunday and he will have an MRI scan on Monday.

Real Madrid fans are on tentahooks. They are concern about Varane’s fitness just a few days before the Champions League semi-final second leg with Chelsea.

Varane is a major doubt for the clash. He asked to be replaced after feeling something in his leg in the first half of the game with Osasuna and he will wait another 24 hours before having tests to determine the extent of the injury.

It will not be until Monday when Real Madrid’s doctors will do an MRI scan on Varane. Zinedine Zidane will then know whether Varane will be able to travel to London on Tuesday or not.

The Madrid coach was hopeful Varane could play in the fixture. In any case, captain Sergio Ramos will be back.

“I hope it’s nothing serious. Talking to him he says it’s nothing major, but we have to wait for the results of the tests. I hope it isn’t anything major,” Zidane said after the Osasuna game. He will be without Lucas Vazquez and Dani Carvajal for the contest.

The good news for Zizou is that Ramos and Mendy are on their way back. They both look good to return on Wednesday night.
