UEL Final: Ferguson flies out with Man United to Gdansk

Sir Alex Ferguson joined Manchester United for their flight to Poland ahead of their Europa League final clash with Villarreal.

United, who have jetted out in search of their first trophy since 2017, boarded their plane on Monday afternoon – and their special guest, legendary former boss Ferguson, was seen in bright spirits ahead of the trip.

Ferguson, 79, is no stranger to crunch ties in Europe, and he will watch on from the stands as United look to secure their maiden piece of silverware under current coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Kitted out in his official club suit, Ferguson took a moment to beam into a camera lens as he walked up the steps and into the plane.

Once inside, the iconic Scotsman took a seat next to United’s former chief executive David Gill.

The two men helped United become the undisputed powerhouse in the Premier League for years, and both departed at the same time in 2013.

United will hope the return of both figures bodes well in their attempts to seize glory in Gdansk on Wednesday.

Ferguson has often been seen at United games, with television footage regularly panning across to him, but it is a rare occasion when the veteran tactician travels with the team in person to a fixture.

His experience in winning two Champions League trophies and the European Cup Winner’s Cup at United may prove crucial for helping United prepare for their date with destiny.

Memorably, Ferguson also managed Aberdeen for their own European Cup Winner’s Cup success in 1983.
