Unstoppable Liverpool produce stunning victory over Southampton

Liverpool survived perhaps their toughest test at Anfield this season to win 4-0 against Southampton on Saturday and move 22 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Southampton were much the better side throughout the first half and had numerous chances to take the lead.

Moussa Djenepo forced Alisson into a save with a shot after 20 minutes, before Roberto Firmino’s mistake let Danny Ings in, but the striker’s finish hit a teammate.

Liverpool did have their chances in between, with Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy keeping out close-range efforts from Virgil van Dijk and Firmino.

The second half started in blistering fashion and after Ings was denied a penalty at one end, Liverpool raced up the other end and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain drilled the ball past McCarthy.

Liverpool then took control of the match through Jordan Henderson’s goal shortly after following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross-field ball.

Firmino received it and got his second assist, cutting the ball back to Henderson who finished calmly.

It got even better for Liverpool after 72 minutes, when Mohamed Salah made it 3-0 when, from Alk

It starts with a long kick from keeper Alisson before Jordan Henderson, scorer of the second goal, turns provider for Salah to tuck past Alex McCarthy.

Salah then finished the contest off with Salah’s second goal of the afternoon, Firmino the provider once again.
