W/Cup playoffs: Ghana set to recall Kwesi Appiah for Eagles clash

Fresh from their unexpected early exit at the Nations Cup in Cameroon, worried Ghana are bent on getting a ticket to the World Cup in Qatar with Nigeria standing solidly on the way.

Black Stars posted unimpressive run in Cameroon crashing out in the first round and the result is giving Ghanaians a lot of concern leading to the sack of Coach Milovan Rajevac.

In what could pass for a clarion call at difficult moment a former Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer Samuel Opoku Nti has told Ghana football Association that the only way to survive the double header against Super Eagles in the playoffs is to re-engage sacked coach James Kwesi Appiah.

According to Opoku Nti only a coach with rich knowledge of the national team can navigate Black Stars through the playoffs against Eagles who are equally hurt after a round of 16 crash- out and are eager to make amends with a ticket to the world cup.

James Kwesi Appiah, Opoku Nti insists with his experience and knowledge about the current team will be the best candidate for the Black Stars job as the World Cup qualifiers approaches.

He explained that the Ghana FA should appoint a coach who has fair knowledge about the team, which Kwesi Appiah fits in perfectly.

“We need to bring Kwesi Appiah back because he has a rich history with the national team”, the former Ghana international told Accra based Happy FM.

“We need Kwesi Appiah for the Nigeria game after that we open in for applications”, he added.

Super Eagles crashed out in the round of 16 in Cameroon

Ghana are aiming to return to the global showpiece in Qatar later this year after missing out in 2018 in Russia.

The Black Stars will host the Super Eagles in the first leg with the two legs scheduled between March 23-29, 2022.

Like the Black Stars the Super Eagles had a quiet exit from Cameroon and will be hoping to re-launch themselves into the hearts of their countrymen with a ticket to Qatar in November.

The team is yet to completely sort out issues concerning its head coach following the appointment of Eguavoen on interim capacity and Jose Peseiro and head coach.

Although some disappointed Nigerians have charged the Glass House to stick with Eguavoen despite the early exit from Cameroon adding that engagement of foreign coach is unnecessary, others have however said with the Nations Cup out of the way Peseiro and his supporters should step in on c lean slate with their magic wand, and be ready to take responsibility.
