Werner Chelsea arrival a threat to Abraham

Timo Werner’s arrival is a threat to Tammy Abraham’s long-term future with Chelsea, it has been revealed.

The Mirror says Werner arrives at Chelsea from RB Leipzig, it is not to be a direct replacement for Abraham.

But the £52million German will still go some way to deciding whether the England striker has a long-term future as the Blues’ No.9.

Abraham has enjoyed an encouraging debut season as Chelsea’s first-choice centre-forward this term.

Emboldened by the faith shown in him by Frank Lampard after a fine season on loan at Aston Villa, he has struck 15 times in 34 games in all competitions so far.

Werner’s arrival is designed for him to dovetail with Abraham – who Lampard projects for further improvement next term – adding more decisive goal threat to the Blues attack.

However, there remain doubts about how Abraham will react, particularly as new contract talks drag on.

For their part, Chelsea remain confident of tying him up eventually, while the player’s camp will seek at least parity with the £120k-a-week deal inked by Hudson-Odoi last September.
