West Ham boss supports Arteta’s decision on Aubameyang

West Ham boss, David Moyes, has said Mikel Arteta was right to drop Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang was left on the bench for the whole of last Sunday’s victory over Tottenham, with Arteta explaining that the omission was for “disciplinary reasons”.

Aubameyang is understood to have been late for a pre-match meeting. Back in 2018, Moyes dropped forward Michail Antonio for a game after he was late for a team meeting – despite West Ham missing nine players through injury and suspension.

“Where do you think he learned that from?” said Moyes.

“In the industry, we are in, this job is really tough. Nowadays it is hard enough for managers.

“If you don’t work and go along with the things, then you’ll not be there. It doesn’t matter how good you are.

“It is like any business or anyone, people who work in their job, if you don’t do the right things, or if you don’t get your work in on time, or you don’t turn up on time, you will soon feel things coming down on you.

“So in the football club, it is even more important because we have to make sure we keep control of a lot of players with big egos, big personalities.

“He made the right decision Mikel didn’t he, and always it will be the results which judge your decisions.

“Whether he had won or lost, it was the right decision.”
