Why delay In unveiling new Super Eagles coach

Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh has said that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not announced the new coach because they’re being careful not to repeat the mistake of not qualifying for the next World Cup in 2026.

The Minister added that the new coach would announced in the next one or two weeks time He made this known in an interview with Channels Sports on Thursday night in Lagos.

He said, “The campaign for the next World Cup has started and we didn’t start well, it was a shaky one and therefore there’s a lot of mileage to cover. We didn’t qualify for the last World Cup and can’t afford not to be at the next edition

“Everybody expect that we consolidate on our performance at the AFCON to get it done.

“It’s no longer a news that Super Eagles don’t have a coach. Finidi George had to manage the team during the last two friendly matches.

It’s the responsibility of the NFF to get a new coach. Nigerians don’t expect us to stay this long after expiration of Jose Peseiro contract and never get a coach till now but the NFF is conscious and mindful that the next World Cup qualifiers are coming up very soon.

What I can assure is that the senior national team will have a coach in the next one week and at most two weeks.

“The NFF knew what Nigeria lost not being at the last World Cup and doing everything not to repeat same mistake that will lead to same disappointment.” He said.

Rising from their Technical Committee meetings, the NFF is yet to reveal the outcome of the meeting on who becomes the next Super Eagles Coach. However, Domenec Torrent and Emmanuel Amunike are two top coaches leading the race to land the coaching job.
