Winter Olympics: Ice hockey referee sustains horrific cut

 

This is the horrifying moment when an ice hockey umpire was flooded with blood after being hit by a player’s wayward stick in a game between Team USA and Canada at the Winter Olympics.

Cianna Lieffers watched the action behind the net when Amanda Kessel, Amanda Kessel, accidentally wiped the match official over the mouth with her ice hockey stick.

Slow-mo footage shows the stick catching Lieffers in the face, who immediately turned away from the pain before leaving the rink to prevent the painful-looking cut from bleeding.

After being escorted from the ice rink by the Canadian training team, Lieffers received medical attention that revealed a nasty cut between her upper lip and nose.

Amanda Kessel, accidentally wiped the match official over the mouth with her ice hockey stick.

However, just moments after sustaining the injury, the Canadian official unbelievably returned to the rink to continue the game after the incident in the second period.

She appeared to signal to the photographers not to take pictures as she returned to the ice.

Kessel would apologize to Lieffers for her wayward stick.

Lieffers’ return to the game also marked a turning point in the game, with Canada knocking over a 2-1 deficit and beating their North American rivals 4-2.

Canada scored three times in the space of five minutes and 25 seconds to secure victory over defending champions Team USA.

Canada is currently third in the overall medal table and is on track to collect another if they continue their good form in ice hockey.
