Nanjing, China, will once again host the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) World Breaking Championship, organisers have confirmed.
The event was held in 2019 at the eastern Chinese city, and the WDSF has confirmed that it will return on August 30 2020.
More than 150 b-boys and b-girls will be competing in 1vs1 battles for the opportunity to be crowned world champion.
“We were very satisfied with the outcome of last year’s Championship and are excited to be returning to Nanjing this year,” WDSF President Shawn Tay said.
“Most importantly, the feedback from the dancers was quite positive, so we are looking forward to once again seeing the world’s best b-boys and b-girls showcasing their incredible skills in China this August.”
Last year’s record-breaking edition featured around 150 breakers from 65 countries, with Japan’s B-girl Ami and B-boy Menno from The Netherlands the current world champions.
Qualification will be through WDSF National Member Bodies (NMBs), who can select two b-girls and two b-boys, mostly through national qualifiers.
The world’s leading breakers can also be invited, in addition to national quotas.
Last month, the International Olympic Committee confirmed that breaking has been included on the sports programme for the next Youth Olympic Games, in Dakar, Senegal, in 2022.
In December 2019, the IOC confirmed that breaking has been included on the sports programme for the next Youth Olympic Games, due to take place in Dakar (SEN) in 2022.

The World Championship is jointly organised by the WDSF, the Chinese DanceSport Federation, Social Sports Administration Centre of Jiangsu Province, the Nanjing Sports Bureau and the Lishui District People’s Government of Nanjing City.
